David flees alone to Nob, where the priest Ahimelech, deceived into thinking he is on the king’s errand, gives him the holy bread and Goliath’s sword. Then David escapes to Gath, into the very homeland of Goliath, and when the servants of King Achish recognize him, he saves himself by pretending to be insane, scratching the doors and letting spittle run down his beard.
