Allied with the godly Jehoshaphat of Judah, Ahab seeks to retake Ramoth-gilead from Aram. Four hundred prophets promise success, but Micaiah alone foretells disaster and Ahab’s death, for which he is imprisoned. Disguised in battle, Ahab is struck by an arrow drawn “at random” and dies as prophesied, the dogs licking his blood; the chapter closes with the good reign of Jehoshaphat and the accession of wicked Ahaziah in Israel.
