Into Ahab’s Baal-soaked court steps Elijah, who suddenly announces a drought at the word of the LORD. Hidden by God at the brook Cherith and fed by ravens, then sustained with a widow of Zarephath whose flour and oil never run out through the famine, Elijah shows that the LORD, not Baal, controls the rain and the harvest. When the widow’s son dies, Elijah raises him, and she confesses that the word in his mouth is truth.
