David assembles the leaders of Israel and publicly charges Solomon to build the temple, urging him to know and serve the God of his father with a whole heart, “for the LORD searches all hearts,” and promising that “if you seek him, he will be found by you.” He hands Solomon the detailed plans for the temple and its furnishings, given by the Spirit, and encourages him to “be strong and courageous and do it,” for the LORD will be with him.
