In his old age David makes Solomon king and organizes the Levites, numbering them and dividing them for the many tasks of temple service, assisting the priests, caring for the courts and the holy things, and offering thanks and praise morning and evening. Since the ark will now have a permanent home, the Levites’ ancient duty of carrying it gives way to the ordered ministry of the temple.
