Recognizing Ornan’s threshing floor as the site for God’s house, David makes vast preparations (stockpiling iron, bronze, cedar, and stone, and gathering craftsmen) because his son Solomon is young and the task is great. He charges Solomon to build the temple, reminding him that God denied David the privilege because he was a man of war, and urging him to be strong and to keep the Law so that he may prosper. He commands the leaders of Israel to help.
