David consults the leaders and resolves to bring the ark of God to Jerusalem, a right desire pursued in a wrong way. The ark is carried on a new cart rather than by the Levites, and when the oxen stumble and Uzzah reaches out to steady it, the LORD strikes him dead. David, afraid and grieved, leaves the ark at the house of Obed-edom, learning that God must be approached on His own terms.
